Homes Empower Recovery.

HER House is a place where women in early recovery can learn sober living skills and establish positive patterns in a comfortable, safe, and substance-free environment.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the four major dimensions of recovery are: health, home, purpose, and community. Research has shown that people in recovery who live in recovery-oriented transitional housing have improved recovery outcomes, lower incarceration rates, and increased employment opportunities.

The Social Model of Recovery

HER House follows the Social Model of Recovery which encourages residents to learn from one another’s experiences, draw on their strengths, and create a culture of recovery. Residents participate in peer governance and engage in group decision making which helps the resident focus on the social and interpersonal aspects of their recovery. Active participation in recovery through mentorship, fellowship, and shared experiences is what makes the social model of recovery a fundamental part of HER House.

A Friendly Community

Opportunities for employment, healthy friendships, and community involvement help residents cultivate an identity free of substance abuse. HER House is conveniently located in downtown Fredericksburg, which is walker and bicycle friendly for most things residents need. There are several recovery-oriented services in downtown including mutual aid organizations, the Community Services Board, 12-step meetings, and more. There are also many coffee shops, bookstores, walking paths, and a farmer’s market each weekend.

Serene Spaces

For many, success in a recovery program is thwarted by an inability to afford housing which is drug and alcohol free. HER House provides not only inexpensive, drug and alcohol-free housing, but also provides a community of like-minded women to share in the recovery process. HER House is a calm, substance free space where you can focus on your recovery.
